Built in 1821, Shakespeares is a characterful gem nestled on the edge of Kelham Island and the city centre, on a beaten track of its own making where the drinks flow and the Yorkshire tapas piles up. Described fondly as "your favourite multi-roomed local", Shakey's holds an assortment of rooms, each with its own personality and all packed to the rafters with trinkets and memorabilia that will keep your eyes feasting.

While much of the historic building remains unchanged, like a treasure-box time capsule hybrid, a rotating selection of 7 real ale and 9 craft beer lines (plus four core lines of the usual suspects), 80+ whiskies and a diverse low-and-no alcohol fridge means there's enough choice to try something new each time you come. Upstairs, the function room The Bard's Bar is home to a melange of live events from gigs to comedy to dance. Like the beer, you never really know what you'll get, but you know it'll be good.
